ELKHORN, Wis. (Apr 1, 2011)-- The North Central College men's tennis squad returned to the courts after a ten-day hiatus, falling 8-1 to regionally ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on the indoor courts at the Four Lakes Athletic Club on Friday afternoon.
The Warhawks (15-4), ranked eighth in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, swept all three doubles matches as the Cardinals' (3-5) No. 1 tandem of
Matt Boguslawski and
Sam Sweeney saw their four-match win streak come to a close, getting edged 9-8(7) by Mitch Osborne and Byron Balkin.
Sweeney rebounded in singles play as the senior, ranked No. 1 in the Central Region, breezed past 16th-ranked Andy McGlashen, 6-2, 6-1 in his first match of the spring season. Boguslawski fell 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 to Andrew Bayliss while
Chris Bennorth was outlasted 6-2, 6-2, by Osborne in No. 3 singles action.
North Central returns to action on Saturday, hosting 14th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 9 a.m. before opening up College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play at 3 p.m. against 19th-ranked Augustana College.
