Men's Tennis Toppled by 15th-Ranked Maroons

Apr. 10, 2011-- Sam Sweeney picked up his seventh win of the season against a regionally ranked singles opponent but it was not enough as the North Central College men's tennis squad stumbled 8-1 to 15th-ranked University of Chicago on Sunday afternoon at the NCC Tennis Courts.

After Sweeney and his doubles partner Matt Boguslawski fell 8-5 to Jan Stefanski and Alex Golovin, the senior, ranked No. 1 regionally and fifth nationally in singles, downed the region's No. 9 singles player Will Zhang by a convincing, 6-2, 6-3, count. It was Sweeney's seventh straight victory, pushing his season mark to 14-1, including a 7-1 record against ranked foes.

Eric McKee and Boris Kampel battled at No. 3 doubles before falling 8-4 to the Maroon's (13-3) Krishna Ravella and Harrison Abrams while in singles, Boguslawski fell, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 to Troy Brinker.

North Central (5-8) continues its homestand on Tuesday, hosting College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Illinois Wesleyan University at 4 p.m.
