ELMHURST, Ill. (Apr. 21, 2011)-- The North Central College men's tennis squad inched closer to securing the top seed for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament on Thursday, downing conference foe Elmhurst College, 6-3, at the Lester Brune Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals (8-9, 3-1 CCIW) are now tied with Carthage College atop the conference standings with each team having one match left to play. North Central holds the tiebreaker by virtue of its 5-4 victory on Apr. 8 in Kenosha, Wis.
In doubles,
Matt Boguslawski and
Sam Sweeney remained unbeaten against conference opposition, rolling past the Bluejays' (9-9, 1-4 CCIW) No. 1 tandem of Will Jung and Vincent McPherson by an 8-2 count.
Josh Clay and
Eric McKee rolled by an identical 8-2 score at No. 3, taking down Elmhurst's Jim White and Eric Moss.
In singles, Sweeney extended his win streak to 10, blasting Alex Harbert, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 1 action while Boguslawski secured the, 6-1, 6-4, victory at No. 2.
Boris Kampel topped White, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5 singles while Clay rebounded from an opening set defeat to edge Justin Guenther, 3-6, 7-6(3), 10-8, at No. 6.
North Central closes out its conference slate on Monday, hosting Wheaton College in a dual match beginning at 3:30 p.m.at the NCC Tennis Courts.
