Cardinals Stumble to Regional Powers

Apr. 2, 2011-- Matt Boguslawski and Sam Sweeney finished the day with unblemished records but it was not enough as the North Central College men's tennis squad fell to 14th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and 19th-ranked Augustana College by identical 6-3 scores on Saturday.

The Cardinals (3-7, 0-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) began the day early against UW-Eau Claire (19-2) with Boguslawski and Sweeney capturing the team's lone doubles victory, disposing the 13th-ranked doubles tandem of Chris Kuna and Lars Olson, 9-7 in No. 1 action. Boris Kampel and Eric McKee put up a fight at No. 3 doubles before ultimately falling 8-5.

In singles, Sweeney breezed past Kuna, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1 while Boguslawski prevailed at No. 2 over Olson, 6-3, 7-6.

In the afternoon contest against the Vikings (15-6, 2-0 CCIW), Boguslawski and Sweeney toppled Adam DeSimone and Andy Wall, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles while McKee and Andrew McKinley suffered a tough, 9-7, defeat at No. 3.

In singles, Sweeney rallied from an opening set defeat to emerge with the, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, victory over DeSimone at No. 1 while Boguslawski was pushed to three sets by Kyle Doyle before winning at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2. McKee went to three sets at No. 4 singles, falling 6-4, 1-6, 10-6, while Josh Clay was edged, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, at the No. 6 position.

The Cardinals continue their homestand on Wednesday, hosting non-conference foe Judson University at 3:30 p.m.
