KENOSHA, Wis. (Apr. 8, 2011)-- Rallying from an early deficit, the North Central College men's tennis squad shocked regionally-ranked Carthage College, 5-4, on Friday in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin dual match at the East Side Tennis and Fitness Club.
Matt Boguslawski and
Sam Sweeney accounted for the Cardinals (5-7, 1-1 CCIW) lone victory in doubles, emerging with an 8-3 win over Carthage's (11-6, 0-1 CCIW) Matt Whiteside and Nick Boomgarden at No. 1 action.
In singles, Sweeney, ranked No. 1 in the Central Region, took down 19th-ranked Jeff Lotz, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 while
Matt Boguslawski edged 22nd-ranked Daneric Hazelman, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2.
Eric McKee rallied to edge Alex McLean, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 while
Josh Clay blew away Russell Mull, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Red Men entered the match ranked 17th in the Central Region and are the defending conference champions.
North Central, winners of two straight, return to the courts on Sunday, facing nationally-ranked University of Chicago at 12 p.m. at the NCC Tennis Courts.
