North Central College was unable to keep pace with nationally-ranked Wheaton College on Thursday afternoon, falling 9-0 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women's tennis match at the Wheaton Tennis Courts.

The Thunder (5-0, 4-0 CCIW), ranked 30th nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and seventh within the Central Region, jumped out to the early lead after securing all three doubles matches.

Maggie Youel and Reynolds Cross kept things close at No. 2 doubles, suffering a narrow 9-7 setback to Marissa Shults and Melanie Milling.

In singles, Cory Schillerstrom suffered her first defeat of the season, falling, 6-2, 6-0, to Elizabeth Worsowicz, who entered the match ranked 16th within the Central Region. At No. 6, Cross pushed the match to three sets before ultimately succumbing, 6-4, 3-6, 10-3, to Julia Carey.

The Cardinals (2-2, 1-1 CCIW) return to the friendly confines of the NCC Tennis Courts with six of their next seven matches being played at home, beginning with a non-conference showdown against Purdue University Calumet on Saturday at 1 p.m.
