Women's Track & Field Wins Season Opener

Opening up their 2012 season, the North Central College women's track & field team cruised to an easy victory over the five team field at the NCC Cardinal Opener Friday night inside the Al B. Carius Track.

Ranked no. 14 by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association preseason poll, the Cardinals amassed 210 total team points to easily claim the team title.  Emory University finished second with 124.5 points while the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh finished a close third, totally 121 points.

On the track, Maggie Lapinski claimed the 800-meter, finishing with a time of 2:26.85.  Krista Cota ran past the field in the mile run, winning with a time of 5:11.28, while teammates Alicia Zimmerman and Kala Bingham finished top two in the 3000-meter run, with Zimmerman winning by one one-hundredth of a second.  In the 60-meter hurdles, Brandye Jackson sped to victory, finishing in 9.31.

In the field events, Jocelyn Redlinski and Monique Lincoln each jumped 5' 1'' to finish in a tie for first in the high jump.  Redlinksi also went on to win the long jump with a leap of 17' 7".

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 28 as they host the NCC Quadrangular at the Al B. Carius Track, with the first event slated for 11 am.
