Jan. 28, 2012-- The North Central College women's track & field team continued its early season success on Saturday at the Al B. Carius Track, winning 10 events to capture the NCC Quadrangular team title, the Cardinals second meet victory in as many tries.
14th-ranked North Central tallied 236.50 points in the team standings to win the meet while 10th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater was second with a team score of 146.50. Loras College (Iowa) was third with 90 points followed by Aurora University (67).
Amanda Coglianese tallied two event victories, winning the 400-meter dash in 59.10 seconds before prevailing in the 200-meter dash in 26.84. Coglianese and fellow freshmen
Brittny Olson, Jordan Wagner and
Allie Youngren closed out the meet by placing third in the 4x400-meter relay, smashing the freshman school record by finishing in 4:14.54.
Krista Cota out-dueled teammate
Kala Bingham during the final lap of the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:16.11 with Bingham crossing the line as runner-up in 2:16.74.
Alicia Zimmerman paced the distance crew, winning the 5,000-meters as the Cardinals secured the top five spots. Zimmerman finished in 18:07.81 while
Amanda Marek was second in 18:51.61.
In the field,
Elizabeth Composto captured the pole vault, clearing 11 feet, 5 3/4 inches, while placing second in the long jump with a leap of 17' 2" finishing 1/4 inch short of teammate and event winner
Jocelyn Redlinski (17' 2 1/4").
Bri Tolliver and
Emily Dierking finished 1-2 in the triple jump. Tolliver one the event with a leap of 34' 11 1/4" while Dierking was second with a jump of 33' 6 3/4".
In the throws,
Ebony Stallworth prevailed in the shot put with a winning heave of 41' 3 3/4" while
Chelsea Armstrong was victorious in the weight throw (46' 6 1/4").
The Cardinals closed the meet with a victory in the 4x400-meter relay as Cota,
Monique DeCap,
Maggie Lapinski and
Linnea Higgins collaborated to win the race in 4:04.89.
Additional second place finishers included
Olivia Lopez in the 60-meter dash (8.29), Redlinski in the 60-meter hurdles (9.40) and Cota in the high jump (5' 1 3/4").
Cardinal multi-event athletes will return to action on Friday for day one of the Keck Pentathlon in Bloomington, Ill. while the remainder of the squad will compete on Saturday at the Warhawk Classic in Whitewater, Wis.
