Oct. 2, 2012 – The North Central College women's tennis team surged to a 7-1 victory over non-conference foe Benedictine University Tuesday afternoon at the NCC Tennis Courts.
Opening up the afternoon with singles play, the Cardinals (8-5)
Jenny Velasquez downed Lina Savickas, 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 1 position while
Katie Hatch cruised to a, 6-2, 6-2, victory over Bhavana Movva at No. 2 and
Madeline Urban defeated Vivianna Iway in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot. Kassandra Berdardo was victorious over the Eagles (6-8) Antoinette Goyao, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5 while Jaclyn French breezed past Isabella LeBlanc, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 6.
In doubles play, the duo of
Reynolds Cross and
Madeline Urban handled Kam Haifleigh and Vivianna Iway, 8-4, at No. 2 before Bernardo and
Megan Marble made quick work of Goyao and Anna Savio at the No. 3 position, 8-1. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Velasquez and Hatch was called due to darkness.
North Central returns to the court Wednesday, Oct. 3 for the final dual match of the fall season, playing host to Judson University at the NCC Tennis Courts starting at 4 p.m.
