Cardinals Fall 3-2 at Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Oct. 20, 2012) – The North Central College women's soccer team fell 3-2 at the hands of College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) foe Augustana College, Saturday afternoon at Thorson-Luken Field.
 
The Vikings (13-3-0, 5-0-0 CCIW), ranked fifth in the latest central region rankings by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as Kelly Farrell started the scoring attack, putting home her team leading 12th goal of the season in the fourth minute. 
 
Somer Druszkowski increased the Augustana lead finding the back of the net in the 20th minute before Taylor Moesele increased the Cardinal deficit, 3-0 less than a minute later off an assist from Druszkowski.
 
In the 38th minute, Hope Stayer got the Cardinals on the board with her 12th goal of the season, and 29th goal of her career, moving Stayer past Laura Petersen for second on the program's all-time goals scored list.
 
After the intermission, Stayer found the back of the twine yet again, trimming the Viking lead to 3-2 in the 54th minute.
 
The Augustana defense would hold off the Cardinal comeback attempt, taking the 3-2 victory while outshooting North Central by a 22-9 margin.
 
Jacqueline Clore stopped seven shots on the afternoon in the losing effort while Viking goalkeeper Meredith Chew finished with three saves.
 
The Cardinals (6-8-2, 2-3-1 CCIW) return home on Sunday, Oct. 28 for Senior Night, taking on North Park University in the final game of the regular season at 2 p.m.
