Oct. 29, 2012 – After posting a scoreless tie over North Park University on Sunday evening, the North Central College women's soccer team secured the fourth and final spot in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament, the first postseason appearance in program history.
The Cardinals, finishing the regular season with an overall record of 6-8-3 while posting a 2-3-2 record in CCIW play under first-year head coach
Bonnie Young, will travel to Rock Island, Ill. to take on No. 1 seed and CCIW regular season champion, Augustana College on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
In the first meeting between the two squads on Oct. 20, the Vikings pulled out a 3-2 victory despite holding a 3-0 lead halfway through the opening period.
Hope Stayer would add a pair of goals in the 38
th and 54
th minutes, respectively, but the Viking defense would hold off the Cardinal attack the remainder of the contest.
Stayer and Augustana's Kelly Farrell are currently deadlocked for second on the CCIW leaderboard in goals scored with 13 apiece. The Vikings' Taylor Moesele ranks fourth with 12 goals so far this season while leading the conference in assists with 11.
Augustana comes in with an overall record of 15-3-0 while securing a perfect 7-0-0 record in conference play. The Vikings hold the all-time series lead, going 16-1-1 against North Central dating back to 1995.
