CCIW Press Release

Oct. 9, 2012 –
North Central College's Mackenzie Wenger was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women's soccer Defensive Player of the Week, for the week of Oct. 1-7.

Wenger, a junior defender from Davis, Ill. and Dakota High School, led the Cardinal (5-6-1) defense in the middle back position in a 2-0 shutout over Elmhurst College.  Wenger also made an assist on the game-winning goal as North Central broke a 0-16 streak against Elmhurst, recording the first win in program history over the Bluejays on Oct. 3.  North Central also held Lawrence University to just three shots, including zero in the second half, as the Cardinals would cruise to a 4-1 victory on Oct. 7.

Wenger is the first player of the week honoree for the women's soccer program this season, and the first since 2010.

North Central returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 10 as the Cardinals host #14 ranked Wheaton College at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.  Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
