Nov. 14, 2012 -- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its regional Coach of the Year award winners on Wednesday, with North Central College's Al Carius earning the Midwest Region honor for the fifth consecutive season as voted by the division's coaches.

Carius led the Cardinals to its 39th consecutive College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championship on Oct. 27, tallying 19 total team points before cruising past the 39-team field at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship on Nov. 10 at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis.  North Central amassed 58 total team points on the afternoon, defeating runner-up Washington University (Mo.) by a 56 point margin.

The award is the fifth straight for Carius after the Cardinals won the Midwest Regional for the fifth consecutive season, and the 25th overall during his tenure at North Central.

Carius, a member of the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame has won 14 national titles in cross country during his time at North Central along with seven national titles in track and field (five outdoor, two indoor) as the head coach and three more (two indoor, one outdoor) as an associate head coach.

The Cardinals close out the season on Saturday at the NCAA Division III National Championships held at LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind.  The men's race is slated to begin at 11 a.m. Eastern time.
