Apr. 10, 2012-- North Central College's Zach Heerspink was honored as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for his performance at the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships.

Heerspink captures the accolade after winning the high jump on Saturday with a season best clearance of 6 feet, 8 3/4 inches. The junior's jump is currently the sixth best mark in NCAA Division III this season. Heerspink additionally tallied a third place finish in the long jump with a leap of 22' 10".

This is the second CCIW Field Athlete of the Week award for Heerspink. The junior also earned the honor during the indoor season on Jan. 24.

Heerspink's efforts helped the fourth-ranked Cardinals tally 204 points in the team standings, outdistancing runner-up DePaul University by an 80-point margin.

North Central returns to the track on Saturday for the Wheaton College Twilight Meet with action slated to begin at 1 p.m.
