ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Apr. 14, 2012)-- The North Central College men's tennis squad dropped a pair of dual matches on Saturday, falling 9-0 to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin rival and host Augustana College before closing the afternoon by suffering an 8-1 setback against Cornell College (Iowa).

Against Augustana (13-6, 2-0 CCIW), the Cardinals' (3-9, 0-2 CCIW) No. 3 doubles team of Andrew McKinley and Mason Sass battled Colin Arnold and Jack Cullin before getting edged by a 9-8 (4) count.

In singles, both Adam Ciccone and Rustam Saini claimed opening set victories but were unable to hang on down the stretch. Ciccone fell, 2-6, 6-4, 10-6, at No. 4 while Sass suffered a, 4-6, 6-3, 13-11, setback at the No. 5 position.

Against the Rams (11-6), McKinley and Sass downed Justin Bradfield and Tyler Shonkwiler, 8-2, for North Central's lone victory of the day. Will Exner and Boris Kampel hung tough at No. 1 doubles before stumbling, 9-7, while Eric McKee and Saini were edged by an 8-6 count.

The Cardinals return to the courts on Thursday, hosting Wheaton College at 3:30 p.m.
