MWLC Press Release
Apr. 16, 2012 - North Central College junior women's lacrosse player Danielle Fiala has been honored by the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) as its Offensive Player of the Week for Apr. 9-15.
Fiala helped the Cardinals go 2-1 in MWLC play last week, as she finished with 13 goals, three assists, seven ground balls, nine draw controls and three caused turnovers. She finished with six goals, one assist, four ground balls, four draw controls and one caused turnover in a 17-6 win over Mt. St. Joseph on Sunday. A day earlier, she had four goals, two assists, three draw controls and one caused turnover in a 14-7 win over Trine. Fiala added three goals, three ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover in a 14-7 loss to Carthage on Wednesday.
Fiala currently leads the MWLC with 39 goals, 75 shot attempts and 47 draw controls this season. She is two goals shy of tying teammate Amy Frazzini's single-season school record of 41 goals, which was set in 2010. With 97 career goals, Fiala needs just one more to tie Frazzini's career record at North Central.
A Second Team All-MWLC selection in 2011, Fiala is the second Cardinal to receive Player of the Week honors this season. Senior defender Shannon Prince was named the MWLC's Defensive Player of the Week on Apr. 2.
North Central (5-7, 3-1 MWLC) resumes MWLC competition on Saturday, traveling to St. Louis, Mo. to take on Fontbonne University at 6 p.m.
