WAUKESHA, Wis. (Apr. 22, 2012)-- The North Central College softball team earned a doubleheader split with host Carroll University on Sunday at Kilgour Field.
Vlasta Mangia tossed a two-hitter in the Cardinals' 8-0 mercy rule victory in the opener before falling 7-6 in game two.
A six-run third inning powered the visiting Cardinals (14-16) to the game one mercy rule victory.
Carly Trenhaile put North Central on the board in the opening inning, belting a 2 RBI double, scoring Mangia and
Mary Caron.
In the sixth, Mangia belted a triple to score Caron before coming home on a Trenhaile base hit. A
Jordyn Beck double plated a pair of runs before an Antle single piled on two more, giving the Cardinals the 8-0 lead.

Colleen Drennan all finished with a pair of hits to power the Cardinal offensive attack.
Mangia (10-12) yielded just two hits to pick up the complete game shutout the circle while Kristi Johnson (6-1) absorbed the loss, surrendering 11 hits in the five-inning affair.
In game two, the Cardinals grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first off a Trenhaile 2 RBI single before the Pioneers (16-9) equalized the score in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs.
A groundout in the bottom of the second gave the host Pioneers the 3-2 edge before the Cardinals responded in the third with a run of their own off a Mangia single.
Carroll reclaimed the lead in the fourth with a three-run outburst before tacking on an additional run in the fifth, bumping its advantage to 7-3.
North Central attempted a late rally in the seventh inning, closing to within one run after Trenhaile belted a bases loaded triple before a pair of fly outs prematurely ended the contest.
Mangia led the Cardinals at the plate with a three-for-three effort while Trenhaile was two-for-four with five RBIs.
In the circle, Mangia suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs in five innings of work. Kristen Hoffman tossed one inning of scoreless relief, striking out two. Carroll's Christine Roggemann (4-5) earned the complete game win, striking out four and allowing 10 hits.
The Cardinals return to the diamond on Monday, hosting Trinity International University at Shanower Field with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
