ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Apr. 28, 2012)-- The North Central College softball team saw its six-game win streak come to a halt on Saturday at Carver Field, falling 3-1 to Augustana College in the opener before rallying for the 4-1 win in game two to secure the split in the team's final College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin doubleheader of the season.

North Central (21-17, 5-9 CCIW) broke the scoreless deadlock in the fifth in game one with Carly Trenhaile belting a leadoff home run. The Cardinals' lead was short lived as Augie's (25-11, 6-6 CCIW) Jillian Gibbs belted a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, giving the hosts the 3-1 lead.

Vlasta Mangia (14-13) was saddled with the loss, striking out three and allowing three earned runs in six innings of action while Sarah Hintz (15-3) picked up the win, allowing five hits and striking out four in the complete game effort.

The homestanding Vikings grabbed the early lead in game two, plating a run in the top of the first. North Central knotted the score in the third inning with Kristen Hoffman and Kayla Antle blasting back-to-back doubles.

The Cardinals piled on three runs in the sixth to pull out the victory and secure the split. A Trenhaile groundout scored Mangia before Ashley Guest belted a two-run home run, giving the visitors the 4-1 advantage,

Antle and Mangia each finished with a pair of hits to lead the Cardinals' offense.

Mangia tallied the win, tossing the final 1 2/3 innings in relief of Hoffman while Augie's Courtney Ledezma suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings of action.

The Cardinals close out their 2012 season on Tuesday, taking on the University of Chicago in a 3p.m. doubleheader.
