Cardinals Cruise Past Spartans

AURORA, Ill. (Sept. 12, 2012)
– The North Central College women's tennis team returned to the win column Wednesday afternoon, shutting out non-conference foe Aurora University, 9-0.

In doubles play, the combination of Katie Hatch and Reynolds Cross breezed past the Spartan (4-2) duo of Chloe Madison and Christy Savellano, 8-0, at the No. 1 position.  At No. 2, the Cardinal (2-3) tandem of Madeline Urban and Jenny Velasquez downed Emily Kuntzi and Taylor LaVoy, 8-3, while Rebecca Ross and Kassandra Bernardo were victorious, 8-1, in the No. 3 spot.

Velasquez earned her first victory of the season at No. 1 singles, prevailing in three sets over Madison, 6-2, 2-6, 13-11, before Hatch defeated Savellano, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 2 position. 

Urban downed Kuntzi, 6-2, 2-6, at the No. 3 position while Ross rolled to victory, 6-3, 6-1, over Jordan Hankes at No. 5 and Bernardo cruised past Andrea Pacheco, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6 giving the Cardinals the clean sweep.

North Central is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15 travelling to Bloomington, Ill. for a pair of College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin dual matches against Millikin University at 11 a.m. before squaring off with Illinois Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.
