BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Sept. 15, 2012) – The North Central College women's tennis team split a pair of College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin dual matches Saturday afternoon at the Beadles-Morse Tennis Courts, breezing past Millikin University, 9-0 in the opener before succumbing to Illinois Wesleyan University, 6-3 in the nightcap.

The Cardinals (3-4, 1-3 CCIW) opened up the afternoon by sweeping all three doubles matches as Katie Hatch and Reynolds Cross shutout Cydney Boyd and Kelly Commons, 8-0, at No. 1, while teammates Jenny Velasquez and Madeline Urban cruised past the duo of Brianna Hogan and Madeline Knott by a similar 8-0 score at the No. 2 position.  The Big Blue (0-6, 0-5 CCIW) would forfeit the No. 3 position match to Rebecca Ross and Kassandra Bernardo.

In singles play, Velasquez rolled past Boyd, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 while Hatch and Urban won by identical 6-0,6-0, scores at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.  At the No. 4 position, Cross defeated Knott, 6-0, 6-1 before Ross took down Millikin's Ashley Zozokos in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, and Bernardo won by forfeit in the No. 6 spot.

In the nightcap, Hatch and Cross stumbled to IWU's Helen Alex and Andrea Kerwin, 8-3 at No.1 doubles as the Titans (2-3, 2-2 CCIW) would go on to secure all three doubles matches.

Madeline Urban won by forfeit at No. 3 in singles play while Ross defeated Svenja Schroeder, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 and Bernardo was victorious over Nicole Nelson at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-4.

North Central returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 18 as the Cardinals play host to Judson University with the first match slated for 4 p.m. at the NCC Tennis Courts.
