ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Sept. 3, 2012)—The North Central College women's tennis squad split a pair of dual matches Monday afternoon at the Lower Campus Courts, cruising past non-conference opponent Loras College, 6-3, in the opener before falling to Augustana College in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin matchup, 7-2 in the nightcap.

The Cardinals (1-2, 0-2 CCIW) opened up the day sweeping all three doubles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over Loras.  At the No. 1 position, Katie Hatch and Reynolds Cross took care of the Duhawks (0-5) Elizabeth Dickhut and Sarah Alt, 9-7.  Jenny Velasquez and Madeline Urban were victorious, 8-1, while Kassandra Bernardo and Rebecca Ross also prevailed, 8-1, at the No.2 and No. 3 positions, respectively.

In singles play, Hatch made quick work of Carly Villano, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 while Urban defeated Est Mungai, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 and Bernardo came away with a 6-3, 6-2, victory at the No. 5 position.

Later in the afternoon against Augustana, Velasquez and Urban combined for the Cardinals lone doubles win over Chelsea Lavin and Miranda Pence, 9-8, winning the tiebreaker, 7-5.

Joan McMahon accounted for the only singles victory, defeating the Vikings (2-1, 1-0 CCIW) Katie Scharnagle at the No. 6 spot, 7-5, 6-4.

North Central travels to Quincy University for a dual match on Sept. 6 at 4 p.m., followed by the Quincy University Invitational Sept. 7-8.
