(Oct. 11, 2013) – The North Central College volleyball team avenged an early season loss to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville before hammering Finlandia University in the second match on the first day of the 12
th annual Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament.
On Sept. 28, UW-Platteville downed the Cardinals (10-14) 3-0 at the Wheaton Invitation, but today belonged to the home team. North Central scored 11 of the final 13 points to take the opening set 25-18, and held an early 16-8 advantage in the second set. The Pioneers hung tough though, and closed the gap to 18-16. Kills by

Amanda Walker and a few attack errors gave the Cardinals a 23-17 cushion, before closing the set 25-21.
Platteville tried to climb back into the match with a third set victory (25-16), but the Cardinals were too much for the Pioneers and cruised to a 25-17 win.
North Central had a balanced attack in the opening match, with White and Walker contributing 10 kills apiece and Kluk and
Kedryn Orrison adding nine more themselves. Kluk had 32 assists to go with 10 digs, while
Jessie Fiala led the team with 25 and
Danielle Williams added 13. Orrison led the defense with three solo blocks and two block assists.
Against Finlandia, the Cardinals dominated the first set 25-11, and had four 4-0 spurts. In the second set, the Lions kept it close early and were down just 8-6 after a kill by Augustine Brutus. After that, the visitors scored just two more points the rest of the way as the Cardinals ran away with a 25-8 victory. The Cardinals once again smashed the Lions 25-11 in the final set.
Walker led the attack with eight kills and had five blocks, and
Taylor Cullen added four kills.
Katie Connolly had 17 assists and Fiala led the team with nine digs.
North Central starts the second day of the tournament tomorrow at noon against St. Mary's University of Minnesota and plays the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. in the tournament's final match.
