LAKE FOREST, Ill. (Sept. 14, 2013) – The North Central College women's tennis team split a non-conference doubleheader, falling at the hands of Lake Forest College in the opener 7-2, before rebounding with a 9-0 victory over Ripon College (Wis.) in the nightcap.
 
In the opener, the Foresters (4-0) claimed all three doubles matches and four of six singles matches.  The Cardinals (5-2) received victories from Katie Drone at the No. 1 position, scoring a 6-3 win over Sarah Paulson in the opening set before retiring due to injury and Megan Marble defeated Elina Shapiro at the No. 6 position.
 
Against the Red Hawks (1-9), Drone downed Elizabeth Ake, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1, while Miranda Grizaffi was victorious over Maddie VandenHouton, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2 and Kelsey Forkin cruised past Monica Schilling, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3.  At the No. 4 position, Madeline Urban made quick work of Madeleine Salzer in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, while Reynolds Cross and Marble were victorious at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
 
In doubles play, Drone and Forkin downed Ake and VandenHouton, 8-2 at No. 1.  The Cardinal combination of Urban and Cross shut out Schilling and Salzer, 8-0, at No. 2 and Jenny Velasquez and Kassandra Bernardo breezed past Lucero Pena and Maura Slattery, 8-0.
 
North Central in back in action Monday, Sept. 16, travelling to Dominican University at 3:30 pm.
