NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Sept. 20, 2013)– The North Central College women's soccer team came out on top against the Beloit College Buccaneers winning, 3-1, at home on Friday.
The Cardinals' (1-5-1) held possession for almost the entire first half of the game, getting seven shots on goal, 12 overall. The Buccaneers (2-4-0) struggled offensively to get the ball back on their side of the field, only managing two shots.
As the second half began, North Central came soaring through offensively, scoring their first goal of the game by
Hannah Smith, only five minutes into the half. The Cardinals didn't give up then as they tallied up numerous of shots from
Nicki Seiton,
Rachael Houp,
Nicholette Fulk,
Tyra Maher,
Hope Stayer and Smith.Â
Victoria Dunn then nailed a corner kick towards the net, assisting
Amy Gerald with the second goal of the game.
Just 10 minutes later,
Katrina McNeela also acted for the Cardinals, giving the team their third goal with a hard shot through the center. She was assisted by
Stephanie Budzinski.
The Cardinals almost walked off the field with shutout game, but with 12 seconds left, Beloit's Felicia Carlson, came through scoring their lone goal.
North Central ended the match with 27 shots—the most in one game this season.
The Cardinals travel to Millikin University on Saturday, Sept. 28 in their first CCIW matchup of the season. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.
