Sept. 8, 2013 – The North Central College women's tennis squad improved to 2-1 on the young season, with a 9-0 sweep of Aurora University in non-conference action at the NCC Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon.
In singles action,
Katie Drone made quick work of Aurora's Christy Savellano at the No. 1 position, 6-1, 6-1, before
Miranda Grizaffi downed Chloe Madison, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 2. In the No. 3 spot,
Kelsey Forkin cruised to a 6-0, 6-0, win in straight sets while
Clare O'Connor defeated Melanie Findlay, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4.
Kayla Garcia gave the Cardinals (2-1) a 6-0, 6-0, win over Andrea Pacheco at No. 5 and
Erin Proffitt eased past the Spartan's (4-2) Jamie Huff, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles play, the Cardinal duo of Drone and Forkin defeated Savellano and Madison, 8-5 at No. 1 while Grizaffi and
Jenny Velasquez cruised to a 8-2 victory at the No. 2 position and Garcia and Proffitt earned an 8-3 win over Pacheco and Huff at No. 3.
North Central travels to Franklin College Sept. 9 with matches slated for 4 pm (ET) at Grizzly Park.
