Jan. 28, 2014 - North Central College distance runner John Crain has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Track and Field Runner of the Week for Jan. 20-26.

Crain was voted the CCIW's top running-event athlete by the conference's eight head coaches on Tuesday after opening the 2014 indoor season with a first-place finish in the Cardinal Opener at Al B. Carius Track. He won the 5,000-meter run in a time of 14 minutes, 30.63 seconds, leading a group of North Central competitors which swept the top nine spots in the event.

The NCAA Division III indoor national runner-up and outdoor national champion at the 5,000-meter distance in 2013, Crain currently ranks second among all Division III competitors in the event thus far this season.

The seventh-ranked Cardinals travel to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for the Squig Converse Invitational on Friday, with competition scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
