Oct. 1, 2014 – Hosting its final College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) home dual of the season, the North Central College women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 shutout over Elmhurst College.
The Cardinals (7-3, 4-2 CCIW) jumped out to a quick lead, sweeping all three doubles matches, as
Kelsey Forkin and
Reynolds Cross teamed up to defeat Nicole Darga and Annie Duggan, 8-5 at the No. 1 position. At No. 2 the Cardinal combination of
Katie Drone and
Hanna Andersson fought out a tough 9-7 win over Hannah Vaselaney and Brittany Kuehn, while
Miranda Grizaffi and
Clare O'Connor downed Lauren Kuehn and Alexis Adams, 8-2 at No. 3.
In singles play, North Central swept all six positions in straight sets over the Bluejays (2-6, 1-4 CCIW), as Drone made quick work of Darga, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and Grizaffi defeated Duggan, 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3, Forkin shut out Brittany Kuehn in straight 6-0 sets, while Cross cruised past Vaselaney in straight 6-2 sets at No. 4. O'Connor improved to 7-1 this season at the No. 5 position with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Lauren Kuehn and Andersson had little trouble defeating Allie Moran at the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-0.
North Central plays host to Benedictine University on Saturday, Oct. 4 with matches slated to begin at the NCC Tennis Courts at 2 pm.
