Oct. 12, 2014 – Playing host to Roosevelt University in the regular season finale, the North Central College women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory Sunday afternoon, as the Cardinals reach the 10-win plateau during the fall season for the fifth time in program history.
The Cardinals (10-4) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play as
Kelsey Forkin and
Reynolds Cross teamed up to defeat Lina Torres-Wiegel and Claudia Beczarski, 8-1 at the No. 1 position. At No. 2,
Miranda Grizaffi and
Clare O'Connor made quick work of Michelle Beczarski and Emily Minner, 8-1 while the duo of
Meryl Hansana and
Kassandra Bernardo downed Jami Dahl and Crystal Nguyen, 8-2 at the No. 3 position.
In singles play, Grizaffi eased past Michelle Beczarski, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, while Cross took care of Claudia Beczarski, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 and O'Connor shut out Minner in straight 6-0 sets at No. 4. At the No. 5 spot,
Hanna Andersson defeated Dahl, 6-4, 6-1 and
Karissa Schroeder was victorious over Nguyen, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
North Central takes part in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament, Oct. 16-18, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University. Matches are slated to begin at Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Ill. at 10 am each day.
