Aurora, Ill. (Oct. 4, 2014) – In a non-conference dual match moved to Vaughn Tennis Center due to weather, the North Central College women's tennis team shut out Benedictine University, 9-0 Saturday afternoon.
Opening the afternoon with doubles play, the Cardinals (8-3) claimed all three positions as
Kelsey Forkin and
Reynolds Cross teamed up to defeat Andrea Goyao and Antoinette Goyao, 8-2 at the No. 1 position. At No 2,
Katie Drone and
Hanna Andersson cruised past Kam Haifleigh and Anna Savio, 8-2 at No. 2 and
Clare O'Connor and
Miranda Grizaffi shut out Feena Chirayath and Anna MacLachlan, 8-0 at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, Drone led off with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 over Andrea Goyao, while Grizaffi and Forkin were victorious by indentical 6-0, 6-0 scores at No. 2 and 3, respectively. At the No. 4 spot, Cross eased past Chirayath in straight 6-1 sets, while O'Connor defeated Savio, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 and Andersson made quick work of MacLachlan, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 position.
North Central travels to Carthage College on Monday, Oct. 6 in its final College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) dual of the season, beginning at 4 pm at the Smeds Tennis Center.
