Nov. 19, 2014 - North Central College head men's cross country coach has been voted the 2014 NCAA Division III Midwest Region Coach of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), becoming the first Division III coach to receive the distinction for seven consecutive years.
Carius was announced as this season's winner on Wednesday after the top-ranked Cardinals claimed their seventh straight Midwest Region Championship at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winnecone, Wisconsin. North Central totaled 51 points to finish well ahead of its closest pursuers, the third-ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (108) and the fourth-ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (110). The Cardinals also won their 41st consecutive College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) championship on Nov. 1, finishing two points shy of a perfect score with 17 points.
Carius is an eight-time National Coach of the Year and USTFCCCA Hall of Fame member. North Central will travel to The Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio on Saturday for the NCAA Division III National Championship. The Cardinals have won 15 team national championships and placed second at last year's meet in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Saturday's men's race is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Eastern time. More information can be found on the championship web page at wilmingtonquakers.com.
