Contact: Clark Teuscher, Sports Information Director, 630-637-5302Dec. 16, 2014 - North Central College has released its list of 76 Academic All-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) selections for the 2014 fallseason. Heading the list are North Central's Jack Swartz Academic All-Conference selections, men's cross country runner
Troy Kelleher and women's tennis player
Katie Drone.
Each CCIW institution selects one male and one female Jack Swartz Academic All-Conference Award winner each season. To be considered, student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.50 grade-point average during the term in addition to their athletic credentials. The award is named after former CCIW commissioner and Wheaton College coach and administrator Jack Swartz for his support of the CCIW and his commitment to the student-athlete.
In order to earn Academic All-CCIW honors, individuals needed to have earned a varsity letter in their sport and maintained at least a 3.30 GPA. A total of six North Central student-athletes have made the list this fall for the fourth time, including football players
Trey Hartema and
Peter Mann, men's soccer player
Jake Johnson, women's tennis player
Reynolds Cross and women's volleyball players
Katie Connolly and
Jessie Fiala.
Kelleher, a junior English major with an emphasis in print journalism, is a two-time Jack Swartz Award winner, having also earned the distinction following the 2014 indoor track and field season. He was a five-time CCIW Athlete of the Week selection this past fall, winning the Elmhurst College Earlybird Invitational and the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals, before posting a third-place finish at the CCIW Championships as the Cardinals won their 41st straight conference title. He recovered from an early fall at the
Division III National Championships to place 46th overall and help North Central win the 31st national title in the College's history.
Drone, a sophomore elementary education major, was the Cardinals' primary No. 1 singles player for the second straight season and earned Second Team All-CCIW honors, also for the second time. She placed fourth at No. 2 doubles at the CCIW Championships in October, helping North Central to a fourth-place team finish.
