Men's Tennis Sweeps Non-Conference Dual to Open Spring Season

GALESBURG, Ill. (Feb. 2, 2014) –
The North Central College men's tennis team opened up the 2014 spring schedule Saturday at the Lakeside Recreation Facility, narrowly defeating Greenville College, 5-4 before downing Simpson College in the nightcap 6-3.
 
In the opener against Greenville (1-1), the Cardinals scored singles victories from Rustam Saini at the No. 1 position, cruising past Jonathan Urshan, 6-0, 6-1.  At No. 5, Connor Sass needed three sets but pulled out a 6-2, 0-6, 10-3 win, while Aleksandar Vasic downed Justin McDonald in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
 
In doubles play, the combination of Saini and Josh Rodig made quick work of Urshan and McDonald, 8-3 at No. 1 while Connor and Mason Sass defeated Ryan Haas and Alex Dowley, 8-2 at No. 2.
 
In the evening match, the Cardinals (3-1) swept all three doubles matches, as Saini and Rodig teamed up once again to win 8-2 over Simpson's Zach Kusich and Peter Reitgraf at No. 1.  At No. 2, the Sass brothers earned an 8-1 victory over Geoff Converse and Dylan Hogan, while the duo of Vasic and Jesse Adamson downed Mike Rundle and Gabe Dubberke at No. 3, 8-2.
 
In singles play, Mason Sass breezed past Convers, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 position, while Connor Sass completed a 4-0 showing on the afternoon with an 8-0 win over Rundle at No. 5 and Vasic swept Dubberke at the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-0.
 
North Central returns to the court Saturday, Feb. 22, hosting Webster University and Dominican University in a non-conference dual at the Res/Rec Center.
