CCIW Press Release

Feb. 25, 2014 -
North Central College women's track and field athlete Krista Cota has been selected as the College Conference of Ililnois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Track Athlete of the Week for Feb. 17-23.

Cota received the accolades this week after winning the 800-meter run in the Cardinal Classic at Al B. Carius Track on Friday. Her time of two minutes, 17.32 seconds was a season best and ranks as the top time in the CCIW this season.

A six-time national championship qualifier and three-time NCAA Division III All-American, Cota currently ranks 31st nationally in the 800 and sits fourth in the CCIW in the mile run (5:09.11).

Cota is the fourth Cardinal to receive Athlete of the Week honors from the CCIW this indoor season. Thrower Ebony Stallworth was picked last week, pole vaulter Elizabeth Composto got the nod on Jan. 28 and multi-event athlete Jocelyn Redlinski was so honored on Feb. 11.

Currently ranked 11th nationally by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), North Central travels to Illinois Wesleyan University on Friday and Saturday for the CCIW Indoor Championships. The Cardinals will be looking to secure their third indoor team championship in the past four years. Competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. both days.
