ORLANDO, Fla. (March 21, 2014) ---The North Central College softball team ended their second day in Florida with back to back wins on Friday. They defeated Ripon College 17-2 followed by University of Wisconsin River Falls 8-4. This brings the Cardinals to 3-1 on the season.
In the first game of the season on Thursday, the Cardinals fell to Fontbonne University, 2-1. Pitcher
Vlasta Mangia gave up six hits as Fontbonne held on for the win.
In game two, North Central came back with much momentum against Frostburg State University, winning 6-0 with starter
Andrea Starr.
Kiersten Tinkoff secured two RBIs in the first inning scoring with Mangia and
Kayla Antle who both singled to get on base. The Cardinals stayed in control for the remainder of the game by scoring also in the second, third, and sixth innings and shutting Frostburg out.
Today the women exploded with energy as they demolished Ripon College by 15 runs in their first game of the day. Ripon responded first with two runs to start the game, but North Central wasn't far behind answering with two runs of their own. Starter
Bri Kiel held Ripon to only those first couple of runs as the Cardinals scored 12 runs with 12 hits in the second inning alone. Â In the third, North Central tacked on three more runs before ending the game in only five innings with a final of 17-2.
Against UW-River Falls, the women slow down as Starr held them to only 4 runs while the Cardinals responded with eight. In the fourth inning, Tinkoff hit a double gaining three RBIs as North Central scored seven in that inning alone. The women received their final run in the seventh inning with a double from
Cecie Portillo and single from Beck.
The Cardinals continue their trip in Florida tomorrow as they take on No. 1 ranked Tufts University at 11 a.m. followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 1 p.m.
