April 10, 2014 – The North Central College softball team smashed the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors 16-8 and 9-2 on Thursday at home while extending their winning streak to six.

The 18th ranked Cardinals (21-3, CCIW 5-1) began the first game down by one after the Warriors (14-12) scored first off a fielder's choice. North Central answered back quickly as Cecie Portillo and Amanda Walker both crossed home plate on unearned runs.

Carly Trenhaile kept the ball rolling as she doubled down the left field line in the bottom of the second. Andrea Starr followed her footsteps with a single on the left side that brought in Trenhaile. Later on in the inning, Amanda Walker stepped up to the plate and smacked one deep into left center field for a three-run homer. This brought the Cardinals up 6-1.

In the fifth, the Warriors would rally back to tie the game off a home run, double and single. North Central wouldn't let them keep their hopes up for too long as they hit in four more runs to regain the lead.

The women ended the game early in the sixth inning as Brooke Kehoe doubled to right center and Jordyn Beck tripled down the right field line for two runs. Trenhaile then doubled to right center, Kayla Antle doubled to left field and Kiersten Tinkoff singled to left center field to end the game 18-6.

Game two started better for the Cardinals as Antle bunted for a single with Walker doubling down the left field line to score her in for the first run.
Starter Bri Kiel held the Warriors down offensively, only allowing in two runs at the top of the fourth.

Trenhaile added the second home run of the day to the board as she blew one over the fence in right field in the bottom of the fifth. Kehoe would also score that inning off a single from Vlasta Mangia. At the bottom of the sixth, the Cardinals would put in their final runs of the game with RBI from Tinkoff, Trenhaile and Mangia.

Wisconsin Lutheran couldn't rally in the seventh with a fly out to right field and two strikeouts from Kiel to end the game 9-2.

North Central competes on Saturday at the University of Chicago in a nonconference double header scheduled at 12 p.m.
