BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Apr. 17, 2014) – Breaking into the win column in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play for the first time this season, the North Central College men's tennis team knocked off Illinois Wesleyan University, 5-4 Thursday afternoon at the Beadles-Morse Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals (8-9, 1-3 CCIW) opened the afternoon by claiming two of three doubles matches as
Mason Sass and
Connor Sass combined to defeat George Alex and Calen Crim, 9-8 (7-3) at No. 2, while
Jesse Adamson and
Aleksandar Vasic teamed up to down Kevin Piotrowski and Genyl Rufino, 8-1 at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, the Titans (5-9, 1-4 CCIW) won the first three positions, but the bottom half of the Cardinal lineup pulled through to take positions four through six. At No. 4,
Mason Sass made quick work of Aaron Guenther, 6-3, 6-1 while Adamson came back from a set down to defeat Crim, 1-6, 7-6, 6-2 at No. 5 and
Connor Sass also used three sets to down Rufino at No. 6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
North Central hosts Carthage College in the final home match of the season, Tuesday, Apr. 22 at 3 pm.
