The Cardinals (27-5, CCIW 8-2) started the offensive action in the bottom of the second with a hit up the middle from
Carly Trenhaile. A sacrifice bunt from
Vlasta Mangia moved her up followed by a single to left center from
Brooke Kehoe to get Trenhaile to third.
Andrea Starr then provided the sacrifice fly to left field that scored the first run.
In the top of the third, the Titans (20-6) nailed a triple to right center field that knocked in their first run. But North Central was quick to respond with a single in the bottom of the inning from
Cecie Portillo to get the ball rolling.
Kayla Antle outran her bunt, placing her and Portillo on base. It was a smack over the fence in center field that scored them in off the bat of
Kiersten Tinkoff for a three-run homer.
Mangia took notice of Tinkoff and sent her own hit over the fence in right field for a solo home run and fourth of the season. She then held the Titans on the mound for the remainder of the game only giving up four hits and striking out two and securing the 5-1 win. Mangia is 11-3 overall on the season.
For the second game, North Central kept the pressure on as they hit in two runs in the first off singles from Portillo, Antle and Tinkoff and a double from Trenhaile.
Starr took her turn with a double to center field that scored in Mangia who was hit by a pitch. The third inning looked similar as Tinkoff walked and
Amanda Walker knocked her in with a double straight down the left field line making it 4-0.
It wasn't until the fourth inning that Oshkosh started responding with hits of their own including two singles to center field that pushed it to 4-2.
Starr tacked on another double that was eventually scored in with a single to left field off the bat of Portillo.
Starr (12-2) then buckled down on the mound and held the Titians to just those two runs only allowing five hits with six strikeouts and taking the 5-2 win.
North Central is away on Tuesday at North Park University for a conference double header in Chicago, Ill. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
