ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Apr. 5, 2014) – The North Central College men's tennis team opened College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play Saturday afternoon with a pair of matches at Augustana College, falling in the opener 9-0 to the Vikings before dropping the nightcap 5-4 to non-conference opponent Cornell College.
 
In the opener against Augustana, the Vikings (9-7, 1-0 CCIW) began the morning with a sweep of all three doubles matches, as well as winning all six singles matches by straight sets.
 
Against Cornell, the Cardinals (7-7, 0-1 CCIW) claimed two of three doubles matches as Rustam Saini and Josh Rodig teamed up to defeat Joseph Gelfand and Thomas Weiss, 9-8 at No. 1, while Jesse Adamson and Aleksandar Vasic downed the combination of Nolan Schillerstrom and Hiro Harada, 8-4 at No. 3.
 
In singles play, North Central needed to split the six matches with Rams (8-10) but were only able to win two matches, falling 5-4.  At No. 5, Adamson hung on to win 7-5, 5-7, 10-7 over Harada and Vasic needed three sets to take down Schillerstrom, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 at the No. 6 position.
 
North Central hosts Elmhurst College in a CCIW dual Thursday, Apr. 10 at the NCC Tennis Courts.  Matches are slated to begin at 3 pm.
