Sept. 11, 2014 – The North Central College women's tennis team opened up College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play with a 7-2 victory over North Park University, playing at the NCC Tennis Courts for the first time this season.
The Cardinals (3-2) took two of three doubles matches to grab a 2-1 lead heading into singles play, as the combination of
Kelsey Forkin and
Reynolds Cross started off with an 8-4 victory over Garette Gessert and Marlee McCabe at the No. 1 position, while
Miranda Grizaffi and
Hanna Andersson downed Danielle Pivonka and Dana Maglaque, 8-2 at No. 3.
In singles play, North Central took five of six matches to seal the 7-2 win, as Grizaffi was victorious in straight 6-1 sets over Gessert at No. 2 and Forkin made quick work of Juviel Vinluan, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. At the No. 4 position, Cross downed McCabe yet again by a score of 6-0, 6-1, while
Clare O'Connor rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 and Andersson won her first collegiate singles match over Maglaque, 6-0, 6-1.
North Central continues CCIW play Saturday, Sept. 13, travelling to Illinois Wesleyan University with matches slated to begin at 3 pm at Beadles-Morse Tennis Courts.
