BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Sept. 13, 2014) – Winners of three in a row, the North Central College women's tennis team swept Illinois Wesleyan University, 9-0 Saturday in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) dual at Beadles-Morse Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals (4-2, 2-1 CCIW) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, winning all three doubles positions. At the No. 1 spot, the duo of
Kelsey Forkin and
Reynolds Cross downed Brianna Dao and Gail Mar, 8-4 while
Katie Drone and
Clare O'Connor defeated Josie Linman and Marina Johnson, 8-3 at the No. 2 position. The Cardinals combination of
Miranda Grizaffi and
Hanna Andersson cruised to an 8-2 win over Randi Wilson and Allie Spontak at No. 3
In singles play, Drone was victorious over Linman in straight 6-2 sets at No 1, while Grizaffi downed Dao, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 and Forkin fought off Mar, 6-2, 2-6, 10-4 at No. 3.
At the No. 4 position, Cross defeated Wilson, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (10-8), while O'Connor and Andersson were each victorious by 6-0, 6-1 scores at positions 5 and 6, respectively.
North Central takes on Millikin University, tomorrow at Fairview Park Tennis Center, with matches slated to begin at 11 am.
