The Cardinals (4-4, 4-3 CCIW) came out slow in doubles play, dropping the first game of each set, but bounced back to win two of three positions. The duo of
Miranda Grizaffi and
Katie Drone defeated Taylor Stanchin and Paige Bequette, 8-3 at the No. 2 position, while
Marisa Coladipietro and
Karissa Schroeder took down Madeline Delano and Amber Morgan, 8-5 at No. 3.
In singles play, the Cardinals came out swinging against the Big Blue (6-6, 0-6 CCIW), claiming all six position in straight sets. At the No. 1 position, Drone battled back from an early first set deficit to defeat Stanchin, 6-4, 6-2, while Grizaffi cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Bequette at the No. 2 spot. At the No. 3 position,
Kelsey Forkin downed Molly Angell, 6-2, 6-0, and at No. 4,
Clare O'Connor took care of Melissa Donovan, 6-2, 6-1.
At the No. 5 position, Coladipietro defeated Amber Morgan, 6-0, 6-2, while Schroeder fought out a 6-4, 6-2 win over Delano at the No. 6 position.
North Central will take part in the CCIW Championships, Oct. 22-24 at the Centre Court Athletic Club in Hanover Park, Ill.
