Feb. 28, 2015 – After a pair of losses, the North Central College men's tennis team got back on track Saturday afternoon with a pair of 7-2 victories over Webster University and Dominican University in a non-conference triangular inside the Res/Rec Center.
Opening the day against Webster (0-2), the Cardinals jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, sweeping all three doubles matches in convincing fashion. The combination of
Oliver Moews and
Aleksandar Vasic made quick work of Ivan Prgomet and Carlos Gonzalez, 8-1 at the No. 1 postion, while
Connor Sass and
Ryan Doeckel teamed up to defeat Trent Purnell and Carlton Poindexter, 8-2 at No. 2 and
Kevin Davenport and
Adam Winters downed Travis Blair and Matt Lang, 8-3 at the No. 3 position.
In singles play, Sass cruised past Prgomet, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, while Vasic defeated Gonzalez, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 and Winters fought off Purnell, 7-6, 4-6, 10-7 at No. 3. At the No. 6 position,
Tyler Ringle was victorious in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 over Lang.
In the nightcap win over Dominican (1-3), the Cardinals (4-3) once again swept all three doubles matches as Moews and Vasic started the scoring with a 9-8 win over Camden Knights and Krystian Drozdz at No. 1. At the No. 2 spot, Sass and Doeckel teamed up yet again to shut out Quinn Porter and John Mysz, 8-0 and Davenport and Winters defeated Tarik Abdullah and Frank Lally, 8-5 at No. 3.
In singles play, Sass was victorious over Porter, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2, while Winters defeated Mysz, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. At the No. 5 position, Doeckel downed Knights, 6-1, 6-2 and Ringle cruised past Chandler Allen, 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot.
North Central travels to Elmhurst College on Saturday, Mar. 7 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) opener at Courts Plus Racket Club with matches slated to begin at 6 p.m.
