Cardinals Snap Win Streak at Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. (April 16, 2015)­– After a strong run, the North Central College softball team snapped their 11-game win streak against the Wheaton College Thunder on Thursday where they split a doubleheader, winning the first game 12-3 and dropping the second 9-0.

The Cardinals (22-2, 7-1 CCIW) took full advantage at the start of the first game when Andrea Starr scored off of two fielding erros. In the third, North Central pushed the lead further when Amanda Walker doubled to left field bringing in Corrine Rowe and Bri Floyd. 

The Thunder (15-12, 5-1 CCIW) responded at the bottom of the third with a home run in right center to bring the score to 3-1.

But that didn't slow down North Central as Jenna Trojniar singled to start the sixth inning. Kayla Antle, Kiersten Tinkoff and Carly Trenhaile followed her and all secured singles to bring in more runs. Walker got her second double of the game down the left field line to help the Cardinals score a total of eight runs this inning and get the 12-3 win.

Pitcher Starr moved her record to 13-1 with five strikeouts.

In game two, things took a turn as Wheaton took control outscoring the Cardinals in five innings.

During the first, the Thunder took a handful of singles to get up to an early 2-0 lead.

The Cardinals couldn't find their groove as the Thunder topped them 9-0, pushing them to their first conference loss.

North Central travels to No. 6 ranked Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday in another conference doubleheader with game time slated for 1 p.m.
