Apr. 21, 2015 - North Central College women's track and field athletes Madison Renfro and Elizabeth Composto have been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Athletes of the Week for running events and field events, respectively, for the week of Apr. 13-19.
The pair were recognized for their performances in the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Gateway Invitational on Saturday, which featured primarily NCAA Division I and Division II competition. Renfro clocked a season-best time of 14.28 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles to place third overall and first among Division III entrants. She also competed on the Cardinals' 4-by-100- and 4-by-400-meter relay teams at the meet and is currently ranked first in the CCIW and fourth nationally in Division III in the 100-meter hurdles, an event in which she earned All-America honors last season.
Composto cleared a season-best height of 12 feet, 7 1/2 inches in the pole vault to also place third overall and first among Division III competitors. A two-time CCIW outdoor champion and three-time outdoor national qualifier in the pole vault, Composto currently ranks first in the CCIW and third in the nation this season.
North Central has now won the CCIW Athlete of the Week award for field events the past three weeks straight. Throwers Ebony Stallworth and Lina Baker were honored the past two weeks.
The Cardinals will send athletes to the Benedictine University Invitational and the Hillsdale College Gina Relays this weekend.
