NAPERVILLE, Ill. (April 1, 2026) – Starting off the outdoor season strong, North Central College women's track and field senior pole vaulter Gwen Berenyi was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Field Athlete of the Week after picking up the event win at the First Chance Invitational over the weekend.
 
It marks Berenyi's second CCIW weekly honor and her first-ever outdoor selection. Berenyi cleared her winning height of 3.97 meters (13'0.25") on her first attempt, over a foot higher than the next closest competitor.
 
Berenyi leads the CCIW and currently ranks second in Division III this season.
 
North Central will take a short break from competition after having a pair of meets three days apart. The Cardinals return to action Thursday-Saturday, April 9-11, for the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships hosted by Elmhurst University.
