April 22, 2015­– Getting on a four-game win streak, the No. 9 ranked North Central College softball team swept the Concordia University Chicago Cougars, 10-4 and 10-5, on Wednesday at Shanower Family Field in a nonconference doubleheader.

The Cardinals (27-3, 10-2 CCIW) tallied runs in almost every inning during game one, starting with Kiersten Tinkoff hitting one on the right side to knock in Kayla Antle during the first inning.

In the second, North Central extended their lead with a single from Carly Trenhaile to get on and double from Amanda Walker for the RBI making it 3-0.

The Cougars decreased the gap with two runs at the top of the third off a single and fielding error, but that wouldn't be enough as the Cardinals would come back to score two in the fifth. 

At the top of the sixth, Cecie Portillo doubled to left field to kick off the inning. With a single from Tinkoff and double from Corrine Rowe, North Central made it 8-3. The Cardinals would wrap up the sixth inning with three more singles for the 10-4 win.

Pitcher Andrea Starr moved her record to 16-2 with six strikeouts.

In game two, Concordia jumped on the board first off of two singles and a sacrifice fly. But North Central would immediately have their own big first inning as they crossed the plate eight times thanks to three singles and then three doubles from Walker, Brooke Kehoe and Portillo for the 8-1 lead.

The Cougars tacked on two more runs in the third, but the Cardinals came right back with two in the fourth.

At the top of the seventh, Concordia had a two-run homer in their last attempts to comeback, but pitcher Sarah Esposito held on for the 10-5 win advancing to 5-0 overall.

The Cardinals travel to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Thursday for a nonconference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
