WHEATON, Ill. (Apr. 24, 2015) – Qualifying for the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Automatic Qualifier Tournament after a fourth-place finish at the CCIW Championship last fall, the North Central College women's tennis team was eliminated from the field with a 5-0 loss at the hands of Wheaton College, ending the Cardinals' season with an overall record of 13-6.
The Thunder jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, sweeping all three doubles positions, as
Kelsey Forkin and
Clare O'Connor fought hard, but ultimately fell 8-6 at the hands of Katie Park and Julie Buursma at the No. 1 spot. At No. 2,
Katie Drone and
Hanna Andersson held their own, but stumbled down the stretch, falling 8-4 to Kirstie White and Lauren Schlabach.
The two teams played until the match outcome was settled, as Wheaton was victorious at positions 5 and 6, claiming the match 5-0. The winner of the CCIW AQ Tournament receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships, May 18-23 in Mason, Ohio.
The Cardinals' finished the season with double-digit victories for the seventh season under head coach Don Moravec, while finishing fourth in the CCIW for the second straight season with a record of 4-3.
