April 26, 2015– While celebrating Senior Day, the North Central College softball team divided up wins against the Augustana College Vikings, taking the first game 4-0, but dropping the second, 6-4, on Sunday.

The Cardinals (30-4, 11-3 CCIW) began their shutout win against the VIkings (23-12-1, 5-7 CCIW) in game one during the second inning when Carly Trenhaile snuck on base off a bunt. Andrea Starr pushed Trenhaile to second off a hit on the right side which made it no problem for Amanda Walker to knock her in with a double to right field for the first run.

The majority of the game remained quiet for both teams offensively, until the sixth when the Cardinals took advantage of a fielding error and walk which made it easy for Jordyn Beck to smack in two runs with a single up the middle. North Central didn't stop there as Cecie Portillo used her good judgement at the plate to battle out a walk, scoring in the final run for the 4-0 victory.

Pitcher Starr advanced to 18-2 overall, her sixth shutout of the season.

In game two, North Central had to battle against some tough calls on the field as the Vikings took a 3-0 lead in the second.

But at the top of the third, two pitches was all it took as Cecie Portillo and Kiersten Tinkoff each smacked one over the fence for solo home runs, pushing the score to 3-2.

North Central didn't slow down there, taking the lead in the fourth with two more runs thanks to a fielding error and single down the right field line from Portillo.

But the Vikings didn't let up as they jammed the Cardinals in the bottom of the fourth taking the lead back and securing the 6-4 win.

North Central thanks their seniors Kayla Antle, Carly Trenhaile, Cecie Portillo, Jordan Johnson, Kiersten Tinkoff and Jordyn Beck for their hard work and dedication to the College and softball program over the years.

The Cardinals take on Aurora University on Tuesday in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. to wrap up the regular season.
