BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (April 30, 2015)– The North Central College softball team couldn't get through day one of the 2015 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament, as they dropped game one against the Wheaton College Thunder, 5-4, and game two against the Augustana College Vikings, 7-6, on Thursday.

The Cardinals (31-7, 11-3 CCIW) took control against Wheaton in the fourth inning, putting all their runs on the board. Corrine Rowe's single to left field brought in Amanda Walker for the first run as Andrea Starr crushed a three-run homer to center field to knock in Rowe and Carly Trenhaile for the 4-0 lead. This is her fifth home run of the season.

But the Thunder were able to take advantage of a couple fielding errors and put a single to left field that pushed the score to 4-2. Then it was a three-run homer by Ellen Radandt that same inning that gave Wheaton the 5-4 lead and win.

Pitcher Starr moves to 19-4 overall, collecting four strikeouts this game.

In game two against Augustana, the Vikings began putting runs on the board the very first inning with a single, fielder's choice and home run to center field to make it 4-0.

North Central snatched one run in the third off a sac fly from Cecie Portillo to bring in Jenna Amazzalorso

In the fifth, the Cardinals decreased the lead even more when Walker singled up the middle for 2 RBI. Then Trenhaile sent her own hit over the fence for a three-run homer to bring the Cardinals within two runs at 7-5.

But with their last effort in the seventh, North Central couldn't get the comeback win, scoring only one run, after Rowe scored in Kayle Antle off a single to center field.

North Central has a chance for an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals which will take place May 8-10. The NCAA Tournament field will be announced Monday at 9 a.m. CT.
