(Sept. 23, 2015) – The North Central College women's tennis team opened College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play Wednesday with a decisive 8-1 victory over Elmhurst College at the Brune Tennis Courts.
Opening the afternoon with doubles play, the Cardinal duo of
Clare O'Connor and
Kelsey Forkin defeated Ava Kolman and Rachel Rettger, 8-3 at the No. 1 position.
Katie Drone and
Miranda Grizaffi teamed up to defeat Chiara Gaudio and Hannah Vaselaney by an identical 8-3 score at No. 2, while teammates
Karissa Schroeder and
Marisa Coladipietro shut out Camile Balch-Knapik and Katelyn LoRusso, 8-0 at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play the Cardinals (1-1, 1-0 CCIW) claimed five of the six positions over the Bluejays (5-1, 3-1 CCIW), Grizaffi took care of Gaudio at the No. 2 position, 6-4, 6-0, while Forkin was victorious at No. 3 over Rettger, 6-3, 6-0. At the No. 4 spot, O'Connor downed Vaselaney, 6-4, 6-0, while Coladipietro defeated Tori Liewergen, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and Schroeder made quick work of Balch-Knapik at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2.
North Central is back in action tomorrow with a quick turnaround, as the Cardinals continue CCIW play at Wheaton College beginning at 4:45 pm.
